ASA unequivocally supports the principles and spirit of equal employment opportunity based upon qualification, related job experience, job pertinence, and relevant individual differences and not on the basis of non-related factors such as race, religion, national origin, disability, sex, color or age. This Agency has practiced the principles of equal opportunity since its inception and will continue in the same manner. The agency will comply with Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina, the Employee Retirement Income Security Act and the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987.
To ensure that we continue to adhere to the principles of equal opportunity as stated above, the Agency has an employee grievance process (see 'Miscellaneous Conditions') and protective guidelines in the following 'Recruitment, Hiring, and Promotion' section of this manual.
As advocate and lead agency for older and disabled adults in Ashe County, ASA coordinates with all human service agencies to provide assistance to help maintain adults in their homes, provide adult day care, or by offering participation in Senior Center activities. Services are offered to eligible individuals with no regard to race, religion, national origin, handicap, diagnosis/infectious disease, sex, sexual orientation, DNR status, or age. Should a client have special needs (language, religious beliefs, etc.), ASA will contact the appropriate human resources entity to respond to the need.
