Meet Debbie, a volunteer fitness instructor and home delivered meals driver at Generations Ashe. On Tuesday’s at 10am she offers a chair yoga class, free to all 60 years of age or older.
Debbie has always been passionate about yoga, and has been practicing since 2006. In 2016, she became certified and began teaching. Unfortunately, in 2022, Debbie broke her leg and after recovering was unable to practice traditional yoga. This sparked an interest in teaching chair yoga, and the Generations Ashe Senior Center was immediately on board!
For the last two years, around 10-14 senior center members gather on Tuesdays for this wonderful class. The lights are dimmed to help calm the nervous system and peaceful music is played in the background. She starts at the head and neck with low intensity and joint friendly exercises, and works down the entire body. Debbie’s enthusiasm for yoga is evident as she talks you through each exercise, and there are modifications available for every level.
Debbie invites all seniors to come and try chair yoga on Tuesdays at 10am. Or, check out her other classes throughout the year, including Thai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention or A Matter of Balance.
Thank you, Debbie, for your dedication to our organization and the health and well-being of senior citizens in our community. You are truly Making an Impact!
