Bob, one of our Adult Day Health Center Participants, has a wish…a new van for the center. Bob shares, “It would include everyone and no one would be left behind. It would be safer and we wouldn’t be breaking down all the time.” YOU can be a part of making his wish and the wishes of the other participants come true this giving season!
Approximately 200,000 miles, 17 years of service and countless trips in and out of the auto repair shop…unfortunately, this is the state of our current van for our Adult Day Health Center. With 23 enrolled participants in our program, only 12 can use our current van as it is not wheelchair accessible or easy to transfer in and out. The van continues to break down and is in the shop on a regular basis, limiting the amount of trips and transportation services that we can provide to participants.
A new van will cost between $60,000-$70,000, but would put the biggest smile on our participants’ faces. A new van would allow us to transport multiple clients to and from the center daily, take clients on day outings, field trips and for general activities. Clients and staff have expressed an interest in going outside the county for field trips, such as Boone, Blowing Rock, Wilkesboro and even the Catawba Science Center in Hickory. There are currently two participants that are not able to go on outings now due to our current van not being wheelchair accessible. The new van with a wheelchair lift would allow these participants and others who have difficulty walking without assistance the ability to enjoy their outings like the others.
You can put a smile on our participants’ faces by simply contributing to this year’s Annual Campaign. We will be applying for grant funds to assist with the purchase of a new van for our Adult Day Health Center, but need matching dollars to secure the needed grant. Your gift will go directly toward the matching funds needed and will allow our participants to have new experiences and enjoy visiting new places that they would otherwise not have the opportunity to go…our mission in action…Connecting people. Embracing challenges. Enriching lives…from generation to generation.
“The doors wouldn’t be so tight on the side and I would have more room for my walker.” ~Glen, participant
“It would be safer, and easier to get in with my bad knees. And even if I needed a wheelchair, I could go on trips with the group.” ~Paul, participant
We are extremely grateful for your trust and investment in our organization. Our hope is that you will consider giving so that others will enjoy the gift of transportation, something most of us take for granted. Your generosity and caring spirit will certainly make a difference in the lives of our participants…of Glen, Bob, Paul and Lois.
