Recently, during the Thanksgiving holiday, we asked some of our Senior Center participants to share with us what they were the most grateful for in their lives. It rang out as a constant theme throughout their letters of thanksgiving…”This place.” “The Senior Center.” “Generations Ashe.”
Over 1,700 older adults are registered participants of our Senior Center and between 200 and 250 individuals pass through our doors each day. The Senior Center is a direct reflection of our mission in action…Connecting people. Embracing challenges. Enriching lives…from generation to generation. The impact is immeasurable. The Senior Center has been a lifeline for so many older adults since the early days of existence, which began in the late 1970’s, and has continued to grow exponentially over the years.
In 1997, we were blessed to move into the building in which we are currently located. It is an amazing space that has served the organization and its participants well over the past 25 years. However, normal wear and tear has taken its toll on our building, particularly in our most used spaced – the multi-purpose room. This room not only serves our direct participants but has been a space of service to our community members as well. Despite the tedious maintenance efforts, the flooring of our Senior Center is in need of replacement. Settling of the foundation throughout the years combined with 25 years of daily use has created uneven areas, cracking and breakage of the vinyl composition tile.
Currently our multi-purpose room has the look and feel of a cafeteria. Our hope is to replace the flooring with a beautiful, vinyl hardwood product that will create a more inviting environment for both our dining participants as well as those attending various activities. With your support, we will be able to create a dining experience for our older adults that promotes increased socialization, a component of our health that is just as important as good nutrition. Your support will also help us purchase new tables and chairs for our participants that will allow them to feel as though they are dining in a restaurant as opposed to a cafeteria.
Your contribution of any amount will go directly to helping us update our Senior Center flooring and dining area. You can be a part of giving those we serve a desire to come each day and eat a nutritious meal, enjoy friendships, connect with others – and ultimately leave here feeling that their lives have been enriched.
We are extremely grateful for your trust and investment in our organization. Our hope is that you will consider giving so that the older adults in our community will feel like they have found their second home – their family, when they visit our Senior Center each day.
