Happy Older Americans Month 2023! This is an annual event dating back to 1963 when President John F. Kennedy designated May as Senior Citizens Month. It was later renamed Older Americans Month, honoring Older Americans and celebrating their contributions to our communities and to our nation. The national theme for this year’s Older Americans Month celebration is “Aging Unbound”.
To celebrate, the Senior Center will be holding a Health Fair on Wednesday, May 17th from 9:00am – 2:00pm in the Senior Center multipurpose room. The West Jefferson’s Lions Club will have their vision and hearing van here with free screenings. We will also have free blood pressure and glucose checks. We will have an array of community organizations here with a lot of good information for older adults. Those who attend will have the opportunity to win a door prize!
We will also have a Shred-It truck here and available for you to bring any sensitive documents/mail to dispose of safely. Operation Medicine Drop will also be available during the Health Fair for you to bring any unused and/or expired prescription and over-the-counter medication to be safely disposed. This helps keep our children and community safe by disposing of the medication.
For any questions, please call the Senior Center at 336-246-4347 or stop by the front desk.
