This is Robert Miller. For the last 6 months, Robert has gotten a visit every Wednesday and Friday from Rudy, a Generations Ashe In-Home Aide. Being a 5-time stroke survivor, Robert needs help with everyday tasks like cleaning, cooking and shaving, and Rudy is there to help!
I had the privilege to pay Robert a visit at his home on a day Rudy was there. As I walked through the door, Rudy was in the kitchen stirring soup on the stove, and Robert and his sister Linda welcomed me in. It didn’t take any time for Robert to start bragging on Rudy. “Rudy is good to me”, he said. He became teary eyed as he spoke about the loss of his wife, and how much having Rudy helps out. He also talked about how they both love God, and how “Rudy doesn’t mind me talking about the Bible”. And, most importantly, Rudy makes the BEST cornbread!
As Robert was talking, I couldn’t help but notice the smile growing wider and wider on Rudy’s face. I asked him about his work, and he said he did his best each day to help Robert.
When I asked Linda, Robert’s sister, about her experience with Generations Ashe In-Home Aide services she talked about the peace it gave her to know someone would be checking in on Robert twice a week. She said she would absolutely recommend this service to anyone in the county, and wants people to know that this service is available for those who need it.
The mutual respect and care between Robert and Rudy that I witnessed was wonderful to see. Generations Ashe prides itself on meeting people where they are to provide care and enrich life, and I think their relationship is a beautiful example of this.
