Governor Roy Cooper has declared that September 2020 is Senior Center Month!
The proclamation reads:
Whereas, North Carolina has 169 senior centers in 95 counties serving as focal points for the provision and coordination of a broad spectrum of services and activities for older adults; and
Whereas, through a wide array of services, programs, and activities, senior centers empower the older residents of North Carolina to contribute to their own health and well-being, as well as the health and well-being of their fellow North Carolinians of all ages; and
Whereas, senior centers in North Carolina affirm the dignity, self-worth, and independence of older individuals by facilitating their decisions and actions; tapping their experiences, skills, and knowledge; and enabling their continued contributions to the community; and
Whereas, the State of North Carolina encourages people to recognize the tremendous contributions of senior centers across our state and the outstanding efforts of their staff and volunteers, who work every day to enhance the well-being of the older members of our communities;
Now, therefore, I, Roy Cooper, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September, 2020, as “Senior Center Month” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
