Earlier this year, a new resident joined our assisted living community. She thought the end of the world had come when the decision was made that this be the next step for her. She tried her best not to like it, but as each day passed, she realized she did like it. In fact, it was one of the grandest places she has ever lived!
I asked her exactly what made this place so grand, and she told me about all the activities offered. Dawn, her activity director, “makes them great”!! Corn Hole, The Price is Right, and Name that Tune are among some of her favorites! She mentioned her weekly hair appointment and bi-weekly nail appointment as a highlight to her schedule as well.
She also talked about the excellent food options, with lunch being her favorite meal of the day! “Dessert is served with every meal”! She went from eating two meals a day at home, to eating three meals a day with snacks here, and has even gained some weight! During a regularly scheduled council meeting, she mentioned that she would like the option of oatmeal for breakfast in the mornings, and from that day on, she has been offered oatmeal every single morning!
I ended our great conversation by asking her what she would tell someone who is thinking about placing their loved one at Generations Assisted Living and Memory Care. She said “check into it”! Your loved one would “be content” and you would have “peace of mind and won’t have to worry” about them.
I then asked her what she would say to someone like her; hesitant and nervous about the transition. She said “make up your mind and give it a try, I think you would like it”.
I think we can all learn something from this beautiful soul. Life doesn’t always go exactly as planned, and change can be hard. If you are considering this transition for your loved one, don’t take our word for it. Look at this incredible example of someone living a full and content life within our community! Through social connections, fun activities and delicious food, it can be a grand place for their next chapter in life.
